Daniel Jordan
Biography
Daniel Jordan (born Daniel Galindo) grew up in Oakland, California, the son of a young Armenian mother and Mexican-Italian father. Soul and funk dominated his childhood — his mother famously replaced his toys with Dr. Dre's The Chronic on his tenth birthday. He started performing at Bay Area and L.A. venues (924 Gilman, Viper Room, Cactus Club), opening for acts like Ice-T's Bodycount. His live shows — chaotic, theatrical, and unpredictable — drew comparisons to Jim Morrison and GG Allin. In 2005, comedian Rudy Ray "Dolemite" Moore took Jordan under his wing, mentoring him in the music business. Dolemite called him "a young man with an old soul." Jordan also credits Blowfly (Clarence Reid) as a key influence. A fan tape reached Detroit rapper Esham in 2008, who was so struck by the "beautifully chaotic" sound that he brought Jordan into his Reel Life Productions collective. Jordan released Greatest Anti-Hits (2008) and two volumes of Essential Rarities (2009–2010), with a fourth album, The Stranger, planned for 2011.
